E3 Donates $44,000 for Classroom Technology On December 11th, members of the Board of Directors of the Etiwanda Excellence in Education Foundation provided a donation of $44,000 to the Board of the Trustees of the Etiwanda School District. The donation is targeted towards instructional technology for classrooms, such as digital projectors, interactive white boards and projector accessories such as wireless remotes and speakers. In 2007, the Etiwanda School Board approved a three year plan to equip every classroom in the district with a digital projector. Working together, the Etiwanda School District and the E3 Foundation have now provided funds to install projectors in 75% of the district classrooms. The goal of projectors for 100% of district’s classrooms will be realized by December 2009. After the check was presented, Mark Murphy, Etiwanda School District Board President, thanked the foundation for their tireless work on behalf of the district’s students. Murphy noted that the collaboration between the district and the foundation raises awareness in the Rancho Cucamonga and Fontana areas of ways businesses and residents can support the district.

What has E3 been Up2? Past You may be wondering where in the world the E3 Foundation came from. For starters, the E3 Foundation is short for Etiwanda Excellence in Education Foundation. Back in 2004, Shawn Judson, superintendent of the Etiwanda School District asked for some brainstorming ideas about how to start an education foundation. There were many people that offered up ideas. A plan was formed and an education foundation was established. The idea was to start something that could help out in times of budget shortfalls. In 2005, the E3 Foundation was granted tax-exempt status as an education foundation dedicated to supporting all schools in the Etiwanda School District. One of our initial focus points was the reduced library funding: in 1999 the California Library Funding Act provided $28.14 per student, and in 2005 it provided $0.68 per student. For the 2005-2006 school year, we raised a total of over $7,500 that was divided amongst each of the schools. Together, adding over 160 books, and 1,610 accelerated reader quizzes to the libraries of the schools. This was over and above what district and school sites had in their budgets for the year. In the 2006-2007 school year, we held our first Projecting Excellence in Education fundraising dinner and raised $32,000 to be used towards purchase and installation of additional LCD Projectors for the classrooms. The district had a plan for implementing the projectors over a 3 year period, but we were able to speed up the time that it took to get projectors into classrooms, into teacher’s hands and teaching students with the new technology.
This year, we have raised over $12,000 from the 3rd Annual E3 5K/2K and it will be distributed to the schools to use for their physical education programs, however they can best use the additional funds (see story on page 1). On October 17, 2008 we will be having our second annual Dynamite Dinner – Projecting Excellence in Education. In alignment with the district’s goals, we will continue to apply the proceeds from this fundraising event to the purchase and installation of projectors and equipment to enhance the projectors.
Future We updated our logo. You may have noticed the new color on our logo. Our logo was designed to be the letter “E” and the number “3” overlapping with a student in the middle. The two tones of purple were hard to distinguish at times, so we have changed it and now the number “3” is green. Hopefully you will see students in the middle of E3 each time you see our logo. We are a new organization and constantly growing. We are looking to include an E3 Site Coordinator at each school. We have the Engraved Brick program going on for the dedication of the new district office and we have added our foundation to the goodsearch.com search engine. You will find additional information about all these items throughout the newsletter. We plan on publishing this newsletter on a quarterly basis from now on: Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring. If you have article ideas, student artwork, stories, photos or other ideas that would be great for our newsletter, please visit our website at www.e3foundation.org and submit your information to the newsletter editor.
A message from Dr. Shawn Judson, Etiwanda School District Superintendent:
I just wanted to share with you some fantastic news. At the
2nd Annual Dynamite Dinner and Auction on Friday night, the E3 Foundation raised
over $50,000 towards our district’s digital projector program. When the final
accounting is completed, the foundation will present a check for the proceeds to
the Board of Trustees. The amount raised exceeds the goal set for the dinner,
which in today’s economy is amazing. At the first annual dinner, $32,000 was
raised.

This marks the third annual Family Fun Run. It was held on Saturday, April 19th. The course was in a new location this year. The race began and ended at Grapeland Elementary School, in the Etiwanda School District. Chaffey Federal Credit Union was the primary sponsor for the run this year, and with their financial support, the E3 Foundation anticipates that the proceeds from the race will be approximately $12,000. That equates to $750 for each of the 16 schools in the district. The E3 Foundation is committed to helping children stay active and to instill them with an attitude of maintaining a life of fitness. We intend to do this by supporting our Physical Education Departments with necessary equipment, training and curriculum to motivate children to enjoy staying fit for life. E3 is a non-profit organization, our mission is: Enhancing a high quality, well-rounded education for ALL students in the Etiwanda School District. We would like to thank all the runners, all the volunteers, and all of the sponsors. A special thanks to all the teachers and principals in the district that promoted the race, Cathy Randazzo, president of Chaffey Credit Union, Councilman Rex Gutierrez, a long time supporter of the E3 Foundation, and Jeff Sipos, Principal of Grapeland Elementary School for hosting the event.
